Lol how cruel fate is truly! Only did i realize recently that Tiesto was comin, all of the shows have sold out!!! NOOOOOOOO! Man I missed out on Benny Benassi, Chicane, Kaskade, Moony, Paul Oakenfold, and Tiesto back in Manila and now I'm gonna miss him here in Australia! Life just isn't fair! Does anyone want to sell me their ticket?! PLEASE PLEASE! I might as well just hang up my glow sticks and my turn tables now. sad.gif please help me or point me in a direction.

Any luck on Ebay or in the local Music Mags where you may find someone trying to offload a ticket, or you could just wait outside the venue and ask everyone. Good Luck.
Urbantrain
Are buying tickets off ebay even reliable? They are selling for quite a lot, well it is Tiesto so how can i argue with that.

Really not a fan of Tiesto.. or any of the DJs that do that Euro-techno, trance sound. But, I still think it would've been pretty cool to see him on this 'Elements of Life' tour.

More of an electro-house man, myself. Only act I'd travel interstate for (and did biggrin.gif) - Daft Punk.
Urbantrain
Man Daft Punk I would definitely pay to see Daft Punk. Right now they got that whole Future Music Festival happenin here in Adelaide but I don't think I'm gonna go see it. Only DJ's spinnin I'd wanna see at the show are the Chemical Brothers, Roger Sanchez, and Carl Cox. Other than that, I dunno if i'd wanna dish out cash for the rest.

Nobu
liam5000
That's already passed, man. Was on Monday. Carl Cox wasn't on the bill, he played Big Day Out, though.

Really looking forward to another tour from Diplo in a few months.. and hopefully Sebastian & Kavinsky will be back sometime this year, too.

Please don't spam topics if you have nothing to add to it. Its rather annoying.

Wish I could see either Chicane or Benassi, they were big parts of my clubbin scene back home in Manila. Good times, good times.

I cant see the point in going out to see someone playing some discs. I think I would rather sit at home and listen to some of my own.
liam5000
Obviously you dont get the skill and artistry of being able to mix. It's not just playing some discs.

Plus, all the artists Nobu and I mentioned are originals - and they all have their own original music. It makes sense to see artists you love play their own music live.

Quite the naive comment.
Steve W
Oh right so its not like the artists that stand up in front of an audience and mime! They stand there and ......Well I guess they dont have to worry about lip syncing.
liam5000
I love being a dj, honestly. If you're a singer, you really can't venture too far out of your own material to entertain the crowd. But, as a dj, you have every song, beat and sound in the world at your disposal to make the crowd GO OFF.

And, trust me, mixing is hard work. Getting it all synced perfect, while the music is blaring and the lights are flashing, and the booth is boiling hot... Still, I love it.
Steve W
I can understand the performance aspect of the show, I think if I was to go and see a performer(DJ) it would be Fat Boy Slim. Mostly as I have a love of the Housemartins and I also like what he did with his Doors piece. But even having said that I think I would rather buy the cd.
do you have a speciality that you play Liam?
liam5000
I play a lot of French house artists, mostly. A lot of stuff off the Ed Banger label, and artists that are similar. I play whatever I want, though, really. I love mixing oldschool hip hop acapellas over banging house beats - NWA over Daft Punk always goes down a treat, so that will usually get a spin during my sets. Always love dropping Sebastian's remix of Rage Against the Machine's 'Killing in the Name of', too.

It's always safe to play a lot of Daft Punk in a set, the crowd love it. And some 80s tunes like Eurythmics 'Sweet Dreams' always kill, too.

I'm only freelance, though. I dont have a residency, I'm sad to say. Still, it means I can play a lot of different venues, etc. I was the warm-up DJ last year at Sebastian & Kavinsky's Adelaide gig, which was probably one of the best nights of my life.

Dance music = Awesome.
Steve W
I dont dance and therefore dont go for a lot of the dance music,I am more of a listener. I have most of the Chemical Brothers cd's , but I prefer the more organic feel that you get from say Arrested Development, Faithless etc.
I would like to hear some of the remixes that could be done with some of the works of Miles Davis, as I think his work would really benefit from some modern treatments, as would the work of Jimi Hendrix.
liam5000
Oh yes, Faithless is awesome. I'm also a huge fan of Air (seeing them next month biggrin.gif).

I dont really like electro remixes of old works from the likes of Davis, etc, though. I remember that remix of Nancy Sinatra's 'My Baby Shot Me Down' a few years back, and it was terrible. I do, however, quite like old pop remixes with a new Baile funk type of flavour to them - Diplo's remix of 'Twist and Shout' is a prime example of this.
Steve W
Yeah I really like Air and as their name suggests in their works it is not what they put into their music but what they leave out that makes their music so good. It is more of of an aural caress rather than like so many others in the genre that are more of an aural assault.
liam5000
I dont like techno music because it's all about the stupid kick and snare of it, how fast it can be, and how repetative the bleeps can be. I love house music because of the basslines and the beats - I love it loud, with ripping electro guitars and synths. And, has to have vocals. Very rare for me to play a song in my sets without vocals.
Urbantrain
Hey guys sorry for the late reply, works been kickin my ass big time. Anyways, to answer your question liam was back in the day I always used a lot of House music to get the crowd started. Filipino's LOVE their house music man, specially classics by Kaskade, Chicane, and Moony just to name a few. Even that track "Ever After" by Bonnie Bailey was HUGE even up to today, hell we even get Moony back from Italy just to sing her classics which I must say she has a amazing voice! I was a Digital DJ so a lot of my music were all downloaded, I believe in Vinyl but I just found digital more convenient. Its beautiful though to see a crowd move and react to the music you spin, lol specially when they've already had a few drinks and *ahem* maybe dropped something if you catch my drift. Anyways from there I'll always move unto trance, nothing too hardcore tho, they just can't take that kind of bpm's. Trance is as safe as i'd go back in the day, but you can say I'm really into the oldschool dance music. After all that I'd spin a couple of hours of Chillout music, just mostly housey ambient stuff. Chillout music I specialized in before I got unto house and trance, but that stage of my life's done now.
After movin back to AUS from the Phils I lost all of my music, as in hard drives full, and to make things worse my friggin IPOD died taking along with it all my mixes so yea.... back to square one. I couldn't bother getting all my music all over again, and plus I wanted to get away from all the drug use that surrounded me, specially when I myself got involved as well. Spun 13 hours straight for one private party from start to finish on the p*lls, pretty much hallucinating by the end of it. But yea, glad to say I've been clean for 5 years now, did it for my wife and myself really and proud of it. I don't regret it tho, some of the best times in my life, will still and always love the music.
Damn, sorry for the days of my life reply here. Didn't know I was pretty much goin on. Its good that you're always enjoying spinning Liam, keep at it, would love to hear ya mix sometime, lemme know when you'll be mixin it up somewhere in Adelaide. And Steve, I understand why you can't see the point in payin someone to mix cds but you have to just just be there to feel it. Dance is a strong expression of emotion, be it old school running man or watchin someone glow-stringing to the music. I always say "Dance Music: If it makes you groove its doin its job", of course sittin at home listenin to track after track of Fatboy Slim for example may be good. It lacks atmosphere, it lacks the friends, the loud music, the cheers, and of course the dancing. And even if you don't dance, try to, even in your own home, hell even I find myself ravin by myself at home lol.
Well there I go again, sorry Ima go now. You all have a awesome day!

I've never been a fan of trance... the sound just was never edgy enough for me. But, damn, electro just has all the right elements of dance for me - that shredding sound of synth and compression (I love the sound of compression - like, what a radio does to music) and distrortion.

I'm seeing Air next Thursday, damn excited for that. Will be groovin' to that for sure biggrin.gif

I'm quite a big fan of Trance (though more of a listener though...Good uplifting mood stuff, I'm probably too introverted for the live DJ Sets (possibly too loud, I noticed they play it often soo loud wherever I heard a DJ playing it on the streets in Europe years back, I had to go several metres from the Speakers, besides needing earpugs...My sensitive ears, that I cant stand, another reason I'm a listener), besides the lack of spare change), and some bouncy Techno, but no House, it irritates my ears, without offense meant too cheesy, I like material with melody, and energy and little or no vocals, often get Trancemaster CD's off eBay, with Tiesto and many other Trance artists on it... biggrin.gif

Take care... smile.gif
