Wow, it used to be such a treat to catch a KMH song on the radio, as she was never really on high rotation or in the mainstream.
But over the passed few weeks things have been very very different.
It seems nearly everytime i get in the car, Kate is on the Radio... and not just on the radio, they are now forward announcing her songs!!
Went to the Mitre 10, Kate was playing, went to Maccas to use the toilets, Kate was playing, last night a female radio announcer was saying how beautiful her song was... etc etc
Seems not that long ago she was frequenting Folk Festivals and now she has made a full transition to one of Australias most popular artists..... and it seems the ball is only just gaining momentum.
It's funny listening to songs us fans were listening to nearly a year ago.... and then wondering why wasn't it so popular then???
Anyway... it's all good. Makes me so happy that the rest of the country is seeing the talant we all saw so long ago.

Yes, it was hard to get anyone to take any notice of Kate before, we knew of her immense talent and couldn't understand why others didn't get it!

Now finally the mainstream have woken up and discovered Kate too!

Yes that is true seven.... with mainstream fame, comes new highs, but you also seem to lose some of the special moments (wasn't the word i was looking for, but i'm sure you all get the idea).
I guess it's what they aimed to do, and bravo to all.... as it has been realised. They have put the work in... I'd really like to see them make some money now (without being blown out by an over keen money hungry media.
P.S. Funny, as after a wrote my first post in this thread, the next morning i jumped in the car, turned the car and you can geuss what.... Mid way through Kates song.. i had to laugh.

I do love when an artist is small...playing small venues with a smal fanbase.
On the other hand. I think it's great that an artist like Kate is making it big finally.
We have some amazing artists and bands in Australia...in my opinion some of the best in the world and Kate is definately up there as one of the best musicians to come out of the Australian music scene in a long time.
I'm loving promoting her to all my friends and family overseas.

yeah you dont even need the cd anymore...all you gotta do is switch on nova wait for a song and the following one should be ldoe.
but yeah re: kates fame. I'm all up for an artist to go mainstream.. like all jobs .. you work yourself up and if that means people wanting to use your songs on soap shows and having your face on the cover of dolly... well ummm.. so be it

I don't consider it a sell out as she's worked her ass off for what ever is heading her way.
sure the fact that at future shows i might have 16 yr olds screeching in my ears and their bo's in my face whilst being groped and it is not appealing... at the end of the day... its great to see that shes gone from the smallest of venues to the largest of places and still seems to have maintained the same artist throughout.

I'm sure that will be helped though some secret/private shows. Like they do with some artists, where they only announce the performance though, lets say, just this forum.

If there had been www in 1983 I think this same discussion would have happened re U2 & in 1979 re The Police & mid 90s re James (in UK).
Some of my favouritist artists did not hit their heights till they'd been around for a few years.
The Police released Roxanne twice, James released Sit Down twice in early 90s before becoming big.
Kate only recently discovered the ABSOLUTE MAGIC that is James live at a Spanish Music Festival, about 15 years or more after I first saw James (whenever Creep by Radiohead came out, as Radiohead supported James). I'm just extremely happy Kate enjoyed James LIVE.
And U2 had a group of FANimals (me included) on the BOY & October Tours, just like Kate's FANimals of the past few years. Then when WAR happened it was just like it is with the "neighbours" version of "Curiouser" being so Mega popular.
I wish I'd seen Kate before WIV 05, but I'm very delighted I've seen her 61 times & am about to see her 3 more times.
And from a Radio perspective I find in interesting Kate said on Channel 10 recently that Triple J gave her her first break when Richard Kingsmill put "Space" on medium rotation in 06, but now Kate is very rarely played on Triple J. I'm afraid I cannot listen to Nova, too many inane announcers & Ads.
And to Kate I say "The past has been superb, THANKS FOR TODAY & I cannot wait for your magnificent future". Andy

So Kate is not quite EVERYWHERE, as Triple J are no longer playing her music.
I think the Biggest Losers in all of this are the Triple J listeners.
Let's hope Kate is back on Triple J very soon & then the statement "Kate is Everywhere" will be more accurate.
I hope that is soon.

Kate was used on Channel 9's Getaway program tonight also

Yes i was thinking the same thing about TripleJ too PsychoAndy, no doubt it is TripleJ's mantra not to play stuff that is high rotation on Nova and alike... As TripleJ think they are a bit too cool for school half the time.
Yet with the current percentage laws of Australian Content that must be played to keep a broadcast licence, i am surprised she is not on there.
Kate sure touched the hearts of producers at Nova and Channel 7.... You probably couldn't ask for a better launch into the commercial scene.
Whatever the case, her music is now more accessible than ever. I really don't care whom broadcasts it... just so long as they do

If TripleJ are failing to play a popular Australian artist because they think it makes them "less cool"... that is there own stupid fault.
Although i am sure they are slipping a few songs in....
They have always been great at uncovering artists

According to JPlay.com.au, the last time they played Kate was 'Walking on a Dream' in June. Not that I'm fussed if TripleJ play her or not. I think it's obviously not her target audience anymore, anyway.

JJJ haven't really played my stuff for years now. Two jjj djs have written to me saying they are fans and wish they could play it more often, but Kingsmill doesn't like it and it's a bit of a dictatorship over there from what I can glean. I've somehow made it onto his Blacklist, together with End of Fashion and Sneaky Sound System and a host of other Australian bands/musicians.

That's an excellent article. thank's for directing us to it Kate.
As you know in June 2007 I was on Triple J as a "World Record Holder" as I'd then seen KM-H 40 times (& U2 76 times), but my further attempts to request or promote KM-H on Triple J have fallen on deaf ears (the 2 either side of Dicky Kingsmill's blinkered brain).
I do still listen to Triple J, as half of their playlist is NEW Aussie & International music, long before Nova get it - Lily Allen is a good example - I gave Kate a copy of Lily's first CD at Velley Fiesta 2006, as I thought they are similar "Alt Comedy Music Artists", but obviously Kate had much more musical talent than Lily. At that Stage Kate's "Space" was on JJJ & so was Lily's CD, but Nova were still playing "Soda Pop" (the music genre, not the aewsome Transport song about it), but I also dislike the massive amount of Hip Hop JJJ play & Artists like Lisa Mitchell (who someone once emailed me saying she was "Piss Weak". I agree), but due to her exposure on JJJ Lisa is about to support Newton Faulkner on his UK Tour (Newton coincidentally had the same timeslot at Bluesfest 2008 as KM-H. I was at the KM-H Stage, no suprise there.
Even yesterday at Sounds of Spring the Triple J Big Top had some of the best OLD & NEW bands, from Nancy Vandal to the awesome Brizzy band Numbers Radio (only a keyboardist away from being GR8 MUSEicians maybe).
From Little Eve BIG things grow (As I stated on my KATE 08 Big Gay Day T Shirt)

It's weird that Hilltop Hoods started as pretty much a quintessential Triple J group, and they're still being played on there, as well as enjoying mainstream success.
Triple J's reasoning is very screwy indeed.

I have always thought it was something strange.
Oh well, it is a shame, i think if we have learnt anything out of this, it is perhaps how JJJ "really" work and the individual egos of some if it's employees

The second you said End of Fashion, i thought "OMG you are dead right!"
Although i guess we can't point the finger at just one person, this happens at every level throughout the Showbiz/Artist/Media industry.
It's just a real shame if Australian listeners are being censored what they want to hear because of one persons personal likes/dislikes.

Rosie, thanks for the update, that is great news.
It would be good if the UK radio stations got behind the song as well.
The Celebrity show is taking a bit of flak in Australia at the moment as one of the celebs, killed a rat and cooked it.
I would have thought that that would be grounds for a medal, but the RSPCA got involved and are charging him. (it was the last day on earth for the rat)
