An uncommonly diverse throng of music fans came to listen to the MTV-EXIT concert in Pokhara on Saturday. The concert, fourth in the series of five performances being organised throughout the country, had popular Nepali performers like Nima Rumba, Kranti Ale, Nalina Chitrakar, and Shreya Sotang performing.
Australian singing sensation Kate Miller Heidke, who performed with her husband Keir Nuttall and his band’s help, was the highlight of the programme Hosts Aashish Syangden and Malvika Subba sizzled the show with their witty commentary. The show was sparsely attended in the afternoon, but as dusk approached, the crowd began to grow. MTV-EXIT’s Pokhara edition, part of a nationwide series of concerts to spread awareness against human trafficking, had the crowds fully pumped up.
After a short informational presentation, Shreya Sotang, donning a MTV-EXIT’s black T-Shirt, started the program with several of her hit numbers. Nalina Chitrakar had the audience tapping their feet next, with songs like Mehendi Lagaau. Kranti Ale, who went up after Chitrakar, was the obviously the audience’s favourite. Even before he had completed his second song, the audience was already shouting for ‘Sarkaari Jaagir’. Nima Rumba was also requested to sing his Pritee Basyo soon after he had started his performance.
Rumba was accompanied onstage by the rest of the singers for a later performance, an explosive success in an already dazzling show.
The next concert is to be held in Hetauda on Tuesday. The series will end in Dharan on Saturday Sept 19.
